Evan Switzer was on his regular stroll in River Heads, Australia, when he suddenly heard un unusual “thumping sound.” What he saw was a kangaroo family, mourning a dying mother roo. Her partner was cradling her weak body while their baby looked helpless and confused. The mother in pain tried to cuddle the joey one last time.
“I saw the male pick up the female, he looked like he was just trying to get her up and see what was wrong with her,’ he told Daily Mail Australia. “He would lift her up and she wouldn’t stand she’d just fall to the ground, he’d nudge her, stand besides her…it was a pretty special thing, he was just mourning the loss of his mate.”
“The male would chase the other kangaroos that came around away – he was sort of protective over the female,” he added. What happened to the mother roo remains a mystery. She didn’t seem to have any visible injuries.
